Dr. Tackett's Note on the Engagement Project Musicians

Somewhere in the long years of thinking and praying about The Engagement Project, I had a strong sense that we needed to have music embedded at the appropriate moments. We were greatly blessed to film in Nashville, where the music talent is off the charts. And certainly, at the top of that talent are Jill Phillips and Andy Gullahorn. We were blessed to get them and they were gracious to do this for us. They performed two songs:

How Deep the Father's Love, written by Stuart Townend, courtesy of Thankyou Music.

The Love of God, written by Frederick M. Lehman, copyright in Public Domain.

I hope you not only enjoy them, but they play a key role in cementing the truth of God’s true agape love into our hearts.

How Deep the Father's Love for Us
by Stuart Townend, Thankyou Music.

[Verse 1]
How deep the Father's love for us
How vast beyond all measure
That He would give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One
Bring many sons to glory

[Verse 2]
Behold the Man upon a cross
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished

[Verse 3]
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no powr, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom

The Love of God
by Frederick M. Lehman

[Verse 1]
The love of God is greater far
than tongue or pen can ever tell;
it goes beyond the highest star,
and reaches to the lowest hell;
the guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
and pardoned from his sin.

Refrain:
O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure:
the saints’ and angels’ song!

[Verse 2]
When years of time shall pass away
and earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
when men who here refuse to pray,
on rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so pure shall still endure,
all measureless and strong;
redeeming grace to Adam's race—
the saints’ and angels’ song.
